بیگم نے کہا شعر سناؤ تو جانیں
ہم نے بھی کہا وزن بتاؤ تو جانیں
وہ بولیں کہ آٹا ہے ابھی گوندھنا باقی
تم پہلے ذرا چولھا جلاؤ تو جانیں
Begum ne kaha sher sunaao to jaanein
Hum ne bhi kaha wazn bataao to jaanein
Woh bolein ke aata hai abhi goondhna baaqi
Tum pehle zara choolha jalaao to jaanein
बेगम ने कहा शेर सुनाओ तो जानें
हम ने भी कहा वज़्न बताओ तो जानें
वो बोलीं कि आटा है अभी गूँधना बाक़ी
तुम पहले ज़रा चूल्हा जलाओ तो जानें

نہ تو موجوں کا پتا ہے، نہ کنارے کی خبر
چائے ٹھنڈی ہو گئی، ہم شعر کہتے رہ گئے
قافیہ ملتا نہیں تھا، بس یہ سہتے رہ گئے
دوست وہ ہے جو اندھیرے میں بھی پہچان لے
تیری خاموشی کو بھی تیری زباں مان لے
پیڑ نے دھوپ سہی، چھاؤں ہمیں بانٹ دی
ایسی سخاوت کہاں ہم نے کہیں سیکھی ہے
